Expectations

Posted on March 12, 2012 by admin

One thing I’ve had to deal with since getting pregnant is changing my expectations.

Not necessarily lowering them, per se, but it’s just different.  I suppose it’s in a way preparing us for when the baby is here, but I’m not in control of my body like I once was.

This morning, I woke up for CrossFit, and felt queasy and tired.  So I went back to sleep.  Before pregnancy, I probably would have beat myself up a bit for being lazy later in the day, and worry that I wouldn’t make my X days a week goal.  Today, I didn’t do that.  It’s a nice change.

I also am being ravaged by allergies this week, particularly nasty post-nasal drip, and can’t take anything beyond my daily Zyrtec for it.  (Neti pots scare the shit out of me. No lie.)  I feel gross—my throat is sore and sinus gunk is making me extra gaggy.  So, I’m going to try to go to CrossFit again tomorrow, but if I still feel bad…rest it is.

But, I am proud that this week I planned a menu for the first time since probably January.  And I’m sticking to it!

Again, playing by a different set of rules.

(The recipes on the menu are creamy taco mac and chicken and dumplings, both of which we love.  Beef burgundy and stir fry come from my head.  Pizza will probably come from the grocery store.)

Also, this weekend I bought more maternity clothes for 40% off with the Gap Friends & Family evenet.  All this, plus I broke down and bought a pair of maternity jeans when I tried to put on my regular jeans on Saturday and felt like a tragic can of biscuits.

Can’t wait for them to show up!

What are your favorite recipes lately?  We could use some new suggestions now that I’m cooking again!

I’ve been meal planning too lately – makes things easier plus helps me manage grocery store expenses better too. I’ve been a big fan of soup / chili recipes that I have found on Gina’s Skinny Recipes site – big fan of the Turkey Sausage, Kale & White Bean Soup, & the Crock Pot Chicken Enchilada soup.

Get the Everyday Food Light Cookbook. Those recipes are all easy, don’t require a ton of ingredients or anything weird and are super fresh, healthy and moderate in calories. We tried a pork loin dish this weekend that was delicious, and made enough leftovers for lunches the next day.

I totally agree about expectations…i haven’t had much exercise besides some gentle stretching and walking up and down stairs in my house, and I’m ok with it. Wish I could give you some recipe ideas, unfortunately, I still don’t eat much besides carbs.

Love those maternity tanks! They are my favorite :) I have two in white and one in grey… enjoy

Taco salads are a hit around my house these days. We also have mahi mahi or salmon at least 1x a week – with oven roasted veggies.
