Week 10

Posted on February 25, 2012 by admin

This is the first week that I’m actually experiencing the aches and pains of pregnancy.  Like, physical body pains, not nausea or any of that.  (Lord knows I’ve been through enough of that these last few weeks!)

New this week:

  • Round ligament pain in full force. I had a twinge or two last week, but this week, I have regular, full on sharp aches down the sides near the old uterus.  It happens a lot when I sneeze or cough or move suddenly, and more at night than during the day.
  • Sciatica.  I have lightning sharp pains that radiate down my butt.  They are off and on, though—they were bad on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then I haven’t had much since.
  • Sneezing hurts.  When I sneeze, or cough, or laugh suddenly?  My ute hurts.  It’s bizarre.
  • Hip pain.  Not too bad, but at the end of the day, my hips feel a little loose and achy.
  • I’m showing!  Maybe.  My co-workers swear I “popped” this week and it is getting increasingly difficult to get dressed in the morning.  I had heard good things about BeBands and the like, but really, I find them to be a huge pain in the ass.  But the ponytail trick isn’t going to cut it for long, either.  I think maternity pants are in order sooner rather than later.  What say you?

This may all be because I haven’t exercised at all, too.

I also got my first public call-out this week.  A male co-worker stopped me in the hallway, and looked at me funny.  He told me to turn sideways, which I did, thinking I had toilet paper stuck to my dress or something.  Then he gestured at my stomach and said, “ehhh?  What’s that all about?” so I told him.

(I’m not going to lie—I was really tempted to be like, “What are you looking at?  Does this dress make me look fat?” just to make him squirm.  But that would have been mean.)

In other news, the nausea seems to be less bad than it has been.  I had a few bad days early this week, followed by a few good days!  The trick this week seems to be never letting myself get too hungry and eating a little something pretty much constantly.  Veggies are still my major food aversion!  This week has been marginally better than the last few.  Here, for example, is what I ate today, and when:

  • 7:20 am: Gatorade on the way to work.  Some kind of juice or milk in the morning settles my stomach enough to eat once I get there.  I woke up feeling moderately nauseous today.
  • 8:15 am: A muffins that taste like donuts muffin.
  • 10:00 am: Fiber One bar.  Not something I’d usually pick, but they sound palatable and the fiber has been helping my sluggish digestive tract.
  • 11:30 am: a few cashews and almonds
  • 12:30 pm: lunch with Tim!  Turkey sandwich with Brie on a pretzel roll and chips.  (It was a pretty big sandwich, so I felt full for awhile.)
  • 4:15 pm: applesauce cup
  • 5:30 pm: small glass of chocolate milk, two strawberries
  • 6:25 pm: nausea hits again
  • 6:45 pm: some frozen cheese pizza and a mini Babybel
  • 8:15 pm: post-grocery trip pickle

I will probably have another little snack before bed.  Maybe some ice cream?  For the calcium, of course.  Food-wise, this week I seem to love dairy (cheese!  milk!  yogurt!), apples, and strawberries.  I am not so keen on most meats (turkey and steak are the only ones that sound good to me) or veggies.

Purchases this week:

Our first cloth diapers!  We plan to do the whole cloth diapering thing, and I plan to build up a little stash bit by bit.  They’re so teeny!  I’m trying to stick to gender neutral colors for now because I know that once we know the sex of the baby, I’m going to be tempted to go crazy with the girlier or more boyish stuff.

Week eleven starts tomorrow!  Our big first trimester ultrasound is on Monday, so please send any happy vibes Lumpy’s way.  I am hoping that if all goes well, and I continue feeling less nauseous, I can return to exercise.  Fingers crossed!

This post is so exciting! You look so cute with your bump!
I plan to take the cloth diapering route as well. Why did you pick that brand? Are they the one size, all in one type? I’m trying to figure out the whole “system” but am a little overwhelmed.

I’ve been doing a lot of research! I plan to do a mixed stash, so I’m going to try a few diapers from a lot of different brands. If I wind up hating any one of them, it’s pretty easy to sell cloth diapers online, so I’ll do that and buy more of the ones I do like. For the newborn stage, we’ll be doing a mix of prefolds and pockets, and as the baby gets bigger I think we’re going to move to a combination of pockets and fitteds.

The bump is definitely all baby. How exciting!

So exciting and you look awesome!! Sorry about all of the round ligament pain and other pains – hopefully getting back to exercising (even if it’s just walking) will ease those out.

Can’t wait to hear about the ultrasound on Monday!

Oh my gosh, I got all teary eyed with your picture! I have followed, lurked, and rarely posted on your blog for years but I am so excited for you! I’ve been sharing your story with my husband and it’s just so exciting to see everything working out for you.

I can’t remember now, but did you read “Taking Charge of your Fertility” to help you get ready to conceive or did you do other research? I’m in the process of doing a lot of research before we start trying to have a baby to figure out the type of birth we want and I just bought that book today.

I’ve heard good things about the Bum Genius brand of cloth diapers, so I’m looking forward to hearing about the Fuzzi Bunz works for you.

    You look amazing! Congratulations

First time commenting! I am loving these updates from you. I am about five or so days behind you so I love seeing someone else’s perspective. I too have not been able to workout since getting pregnant. Every time I think I will I get more ligament pain. Maybe soon? Anyway congrats! Thanks for keeping us updated.

You look great! Just give in to the maternity pants. You’ll need them eventually. I was not a fan of the Be band either. It would always ride up on me.

We cloth diaper, and I really like it. Its only a couple of extra loads a week, the girls stay cleaner than in disposables (they blow out ever poop in disposables), and there’s no wet-diaper-chemical smell in their room (not to mention that we still have less than one trash can a week for 4 people of garbage, which I think is awesome).

coughing and sneezing hurts me too! I’m right there with ya on the food and nausea, I pretty much stick to carbs and fruit and can’t really take much else. I’m 13 weeks tomorrow so I’m praying that the nausea goes away soon!!!

I’m new to your blog, I just stumbled upon it from a RT on Twitter, but I’m so exciting to have found it! I’m pregnant with our first baby (due October 16) so it’s exciting to follow along with someone who is just a few weeks ahead of me! I’ve been impatiently waiting for our first apt. on March 12th so we can finally start sharing the news with our friends. It just doesn’t seem real until we actually see or hear the heartbeat.
