Holy grail running shorts

Posted on June 27, 2011 by admin

You know, some days just start out good and keep delivering all day long.

Today was one of them.

I’m not going to lie.  It started out this morning with an extremely satisfying zit pop.

Then, I opened my office door to find this delightful little gift on my desk.

Our administrative assistant and I had a deep discussion about the merits of various snack foods on Friday, and I complained heartily that I cannot find small bags of Cool Ranch Doritos in Kansas City.  I refuse to buy a full size bag, because it will be gone in no time flat, which is why I occasionally like the small bags to scratch the itch, so to speak.

Anyway.  She found them.  And brought me one.  God bless that woman.

Today was kind of a munchy day.  I never really sat down and ate lunch, but I just ate bits and pieces of it (and my afternoon snack) all day long.

That small bag of Doritos?  I had the awesome self-control to only eat half of the small bag.  The other half is safely paper-clipped shut in my desk drawer.  Ten points for me.

After work, I was super excited to get back to the gym after a rest week.  I pounded out four miles in the steamy hot gym in 37:40.0627 014

More importantly, I discovered what I think *might* be the holy grail.

Running shorts.

That are cute.

And don’t ride up between my thighs, which will never NOT touch.  Ever.

And right now I am resisting the urge to buy ten more pairs.   (Excuse the food baby.  This was taken post-dinner.)

Specifically, they are the lululemon Run: The Fastest shorts and I want to hug them and squeeze them and pin them to my wall with a big heart around them.

Since I’ve been running, I’ve tried all kinds of shorts.  The only shorts I’ve ever been able to run more than 3 miles in are these lucy Propel Run Shorts, which, while highly functional, are decidedly un-cute, and just kind of point to your legs and say “OH HEY THIS GIRL HAS THUNDER THIGHS.”

The cute shorts ride up.  Always.  Except these didn’t, at all, over the course of four miles, which is a big. freaking. deal.

So.  Ahem.  I’m thrilled about that.

And dinner was another win!

I pinned this recipe on Pinterest last week and could not stop thinking about it.  Hence, Monday night dinner.  And it was so good that we both went back for seconds.  It’s a great weeknight recipe—cheap, easy, usually have the ingredients on hand, and healthy!  We added a little grilled chicken, but it’s also normally vegetarian, if that’s your thing.  Definitely worth a try.

All good days end with cat pictures.

And ice cream.  Which is where I’m going right now.

What was the best part of your day today?

    Ok, so 2 things:

    A) I was told to pose for that picture. I was in the midst of an important angry birds game.

    B) If I ever release an album, the picture of Southpaw looking away all “too cool” will be the cover shot.

  2. Have you tried Skirts Sports? I LOVE LOVE LOVE their gym girl ultra skirt, because not only it looks cute AND flattering, but their internal shorts don’t ride up AT ALL. And I’m the queen of thunder thighs.

  3. Heh. Zit pop. You crack me up with your brutal honesty.

Today, I worked – but didn’t work That was great.
I also got in a 45 minute spin class, 15 minutes of core work and a hot/sweaty 6 mile run. Score.

Oh yeah AND I just created a single serve brownie/cookie/cake thing. It was mighty tasty.

  4. Glad to hear that other people enjoy a good zit pop now and then! Also, good to know about those running shorts. I usually wear capris, since I have the same riding up issue.

i too have thighs that will never not touch and i almost always run in nike capris because i have a hard time finding shorts that don’t ride up. i’ll have to check out that link to the lululemon shorts. i have one pair of nike tempo shorts that i adore but i cant run in them so i just wear them around the house or to cross train since they don’t ride up on the elliptical. i have a brand new running skirt that has bike shorts attached underneath (from costco) that i got a couple of months ago and i’m going to test it out for the first time tomorrow and i hope they don’t ride up!

I have to say I’m skeptical of any running short that is not tight-fitting (hence my love of the Groove short), but I may have to check out those out next time I’m over at lulu. Four miles seems like a pretty good trial distance…

  8. Jennifer says:

Congrats on the shorts! I am always on the lookout for good running shorts. I excitedly went to the website to check them out. Nothing bigger than a 10?? No lululemon for me. Guess that’s a good thing, since it’s spendy.

  9. Alaina says:

I must find those shorts. I don’t care how much they cost. I hate shorts that ride up too, or that are just too short. Those look very cute!

    I love these shorts too!!

  11. Just checked out those shorts. They only go up to a size 10? Can’t I even get a 12? Sigh. Oh well. I guess Lululemon doesn’t want money from AVERAGE SIZE WOMEN who run. Sorry, venting in your comments a bit :( They are super cute, though. Glad they work for you.
