Top 3 Purchases of 2010

Posted on November 10, 2010 by admin

1.  My Nook.

photo(37)

I got this for my birthday (so, okay, it’s not a purchase really, but I did use my credit card points to pay for part of it) and I will never, ever go back to paper books.

This purchase was driven by laziness.  Completely.  I travel a lot, obviously, and as a fast reader, it sucks to carry around lots of books.  They are also heavy.  And I hate having to constantly go to the bookstore, or fart around with ordering on Amazon, and I never did make it to the library in town.

My Nook lets me have lots of books without carrying  them around or having to trek around to buy them.  I can buy Nook books through the WiFi and 3G on my device in an airport or wherever and have them instantly.  I can also check out eBooks from my local library online, sync them with my Nook, and they’re automatically returned after 3 weeks.

Also, less to clutter up my house.  I missed paper books for about .3 seconds.

I can’t really speak to the Nook v. Kindle debate because I largely bought the Nook because I had a $100 B&N gift card from my credit card points.  I’m sure I’d love a Kindle too.  I do like that Nook has built-in lending, which I’ve used quite a bit, and a swipey touchscreen.  And Sudoku.

2.  Going out on a limb here with an early prediction…the Diva Cup

photo(35)Two days in and I am already freeing my purse and under-the-bathroom-sink cabinet from the piles of tampons and pads that used to live there.  Amazing.   I’m still on the learning curve a bit, but I wrangled this thing in a public bathroom twice today and emerged unscathed and happy.  Love it.

3.  BondiBands.

I’ve worn them in every race since April.

I wore them back when I had long hair…

And with short hair.

God, that is a heinous picture.

Anyway.

Marathon 195I love them.  They don’t slip and keep my face mostly sweat-free.  And all other headbands pop off the back of my head.  Love.

What are your top 3 purchases this year so far?

  1. Alison says:

    1. Canon Rebel camera

    2. Injinji toe socks (helps avoid blisters and keeps your toes from rubbing together when running)

    3. Shark steam mop. Amen.

  2. Ashley says:

Hmm…most of my top purchases were at the end of 2009.

The ones for this year have to be:

    1. iPhone
    2. iMac
    3. Canon printer

  3. Jennifer G. says:

I have had the Diva Cup for…over 5 years now, I think, and L-O-V-E it. Don’t miss ‘feminine items’ at all. It did take me a few months initially to get the hang of it though, hopefully your learning curve will be significantly shorter!

    • Jennifer G. says:

Right, and my top 3 purchases this year…
      1) new Coach bag
      2) Forerunner 305 (how did I ever run w/out it?!?!)
      3) probably new running shoes: Newtons.

  4. I bought 2 bondibands right before my half. On your recommendation. You were so right! They’re awesome!

  5. You have convinced me to do some shopping or add these to my Christmas list. (Well I’ll buy the diva cup myself…lol)

I bought myself some Lululemon workout clothes and they are so awesome. I wish the pants weren’t so expensive but they are 100% worth it. The TaTa tamer is the best sports bra I’ve ever had. I used to wear 2 bras! Now I can finally wear only one.

  6. Maria says:

    1. My Garmin forerunner. How I went so long without having one is beyond me.

    2. Nook. I. Love. IT!!! Although, I wish I would have held out longer for a color screen one.

3 My Yorkie-poo, Oliver. I love him to death, and with fiance being deployed, he keeps me sane and not so lonely.

  7. Kate says:

1- I love my diva cup too!
2- A cosy grey scarf I’ve worn to death in SO many ways with SO many outfits
3- Active intent running shorts- they’re tight, like bike shorts without the chamois, black, flattering, chafe-free, comfortable, and they have a great phone/key/gu pocket, and they’re $16.99

  8. 1 – My Garmin Forerunner 110. Don’t know how or why I held out so long!

2 – My CEP compression socks. Pricy, but worth every penny. I have three pairs. :)

3 – My J brand skinny jeans. I never thought I could do skinny jeans but these are amazing!

  9. Jessica says:

1- my kindle, although I do wish books were cheaper and my husband didn’t keep taking it.

2- the Dyson Animal. We have 2 dogs and a cat and that thing is amazing. I’m glad we spent all that money on it.

    3- new (expensive) cookwear

  10. Leah @ L4L says:

I know you aren’t infertile but this made me think of you:

Um, and top 3 purchases… I don’t really feel like I’ve purchased much? Maybe our honeymoon. Does that count?

And the idea of the diva cup scares me crapless.

  11. Susan says:

I bought my first bondi band a few weeks ago based on your previous recommendations! So far I love it. But I regret buying a burnt orange colour, as most of my workout clothes are bright colours and clashes horribly with everything. Ah well, function over fashion I guess ;)

Best purchase of 2010 is definitely my eye mask. I thought I was just always doomed to being a light sleeper. But turns out what I thought was my body clock was just the sun waking me up at 7am everyday! I can actually sleep till noon with the eye mask on! (no, really, I’ve done it, and it was glorious).

Will look into the diva cup if I ever get my period back. It’s been 11 months and counting since going off birth control… :\
